Tips

Make PomPoms to decorate your Knitting and Crochet
PomPoms are easy to make and a great way to use up odds and ends of yarn.
Step 1
The size of the pompom will depend on the size of the cardboard 'donut'. Simply measure from one side to the other and subtract the size of the hole. For instance if you want to make a pompom which is 4 inches in diameter you need to make a 'donut' which is 6 inches from side to side with a hole of 2 inches. To make a highly textured pompom use different types of yarns.
Step 2
Cut out of card two 'donut' shaped pieces of cardboard to the required size.Step 3
Start wrapping yarn around the 'donut' until the hole is complete full.Step 4
Carefully pull the yarn around the edges of the pompom apart so you can see the two edges of the card and then start to snip the yarn apart along the middle of the two edges.Step 5
When this is complete, tie a STRONG piece of string or yarn around the middle of the pompom and pull TIGHT! As you pull the pompom will start to fluff up.Step 6
Pull the cardboard away from the pompom and trim any loose ends... and Voila! A pompom!!
